Insurance companies, as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are constantly doing studies and looking at the rates of serious and fatal traffic accidents across the country. They are doing this for different reasons, as the insurance companies want to save money by not having to pay out claims, and NHTSA presumably wants to save lives, but the results are generally the same, and they are not always promising.
According to a recent news feature from the Boston Globe, there has been a huge increase in the year over year numbers of highway fatalities in the nation, as compared to last year. In fact, this increase accounts for the single largest increase from one year to the next since the late 1960s, and this is causing some serious alarm, and there is good reason for this.
