Traffic Officer Hit by Car in Lexington, Mass – Alleged Drunk Driving Accident

A man has recently been arrested after allegedly hitting a traffic officer who was working a detail at a construction site, according to a news report from CBS Boston Local.  A police spokesperson has said the suspect was traveling at a relatively slow speed past the construction site when he allegedly crashed into the traffic officer.

beergardenThe traffic officer was working a night detail.  This when a police officer, state trooper, or traffic officer takes a job on off-duty hours to make extra money.  When you drive down the road and see a police car at a construction site, it is likely an officer working a detail.  In this accident, the man who allegedly hit the traffic officer stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigating officers. When officers interviewed the man, they immediately suspected he had been driving under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrested for multiple traffic related charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol (OUI), and he is scheduled to be arraigned the local Massachusetts District Court. It is important to note that he has merely been accused of various crimes in connection with an alleged drunk driving accident.  He has not been convicted of any crime in connection with this matter and is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt by a judge or jury.

As for the traffic officer, first responders arrived at the scene and saw that the officer’s leg was likely broken.  They stabilized his leg and took him to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured ankle.

If you were injured in Boston by an alleged drunk driver and suffered a fracture or other serious personal injury, you should speak with an experienced drunk driving accident lawyer as soon as possible to see if you have valid case.  One of the most important things is that you make sure you get into treatment as soon as possible.  This will help with a few things.  First, it will make sure you get the treatment you need when you need it most. The other thing it will do is to help create a record of treatment your lawyer can use when talking to the insurance adjuster for the company from which the drunk driver has purchased coverage.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should never decline medical attention, including a ride to the hospital.  While this does not mean you do not have a case, it does mean that it may be more difficult to prove higher damages, and this is something you want to avoid if possible.

Many people are worried that they cannot afford medical treatment, especially if they do not have health insurance.  While this is less likely these days, it still does happen.  This is something about which you should talk to your car accident attorney, because there may be options and you should work with your attorney in these types of accident cases.
